I LIKE TO MOVE IT, MOVE IT! AND SO MUCH MORE!

At today's assembly, les amis de la 5ième année surpised the school with their dance moves.  They were awesome!  Check them out for yourself!

Admiral is very proud of all the recipients of the Courage award for the month of November. In their own way, each of the recipients stood out for their demonstration of this month's character trait.  Congratulations to Sydney and Ben from our class.  Some of our Admiral friends received recognition for taking a stand against bullying.

At the end of the assembly the house points were announced - congratulations to Red House, the leading house this month!

Finally, our house cheers!

As you can see from the photo, many students were happy to participate in our Pajama Day Spirit Day - they all looked so cute and cozy in their jammies!  What a comfy day!

In English this past week, our literacy focus has been on reading strategies, specifically visualisation. Students use words from the text and their schema to help them form images in their mind to better understand the text.   They illustrated their "pictures" form their mind and labelled them with words from the text to show me how they make connections, to and inferences from the author's words to better understand what is written. This activity also gives us a greater appreciation for the use of poetic imagery.  Below, they are hard at work illustrating the beginning, middle and end of Fireflies, written and illustrated by Julie Brinckloe.

Before Fireflies, we practised this strategy using our read aloud, Wonder, and the awesomely creative picture book, Imagine a Day...

"I AM A TREE.  I STAND FEARLESS IN THE WORST OF TIMES. STILL I STAND TALL AND STRONG. I AM A TREE, YES INDEED."

This week in math, we began a new unit in Number Sense and Numeration. We are concentrating on multiplication facts and decimal computations.

En français, students are pratising a new skit: Boucle d'or et les trois ours.  They will begin presentations on Wednesday.  They should begin bringing in their props for Monday for dress rehearsals.  This week's French word study focuses on La ville (suite).  Our dictée is next Wednesday. En lecture, we have begun a new little chapter book entitled Le voleur.  I hope to share students' Ma famille project with you shortly.  Most students completed their project by last Friday's due date, so are still finishing up.

In Social Studies we continue to study and discuss the responsibilities and powers of the three levels of Canadian government, as well as the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizens.  We have also been studying the UN Convention Rights of a the Child.  We have examined our rights and responsibilities as students in our school, and as children within in our family.

As responsible students and citizens, we continue to stand up for the rights of students within our class and school, and do our share to end bullying.

Lyrics, if you want to sing along...

Have a wonderful weekend!
